A STREET in Kilmarnock has been under water for over a week due to a burst water main — but so far no one has made any moves to repair the fault.
Thousands of gallons of water has been escaping from the pipe and seeping up onto the street through a crack in the pavement on Dalwhinnie Crescent and one local resident has tried to get it repaired with no joy.
The man said: “I called Scottish Water who said it was the responsibility of the builders George Wimpey and when I went along to the builder’s site office, they said it was a job for Scottish Water.
“That’s been going on for a week now. I don’t care who’s responsibility it is, I just want it to be fixed so all this water isn’t being completely wasted.”
A spokeswoman for Scottish Water said: “Scottish Water engineers visited the site last week and it has been established that the leak is coming from a private water main.
“The main has not yet been adopted into Scottish Water’s network and we are liaising with George Wimpey at the moment.”
No one from George Wimpey was available for comment as the Standard went to press.
