Kilmarnock jewellery designer wins second award

JEWELLERY designer Corinne Smith has won a national award for the second year in a row for making brides sparkle on their wedding day.

Corrine was crowned winner of the Bridal Accessories category for a second time at the VOWS (Voted Outstanding Wedding Supplier) awards held in Glasgow last week.

The 34-year-old designs and makes a unique range of beautifully hand-crafted bridal tiaras, accessories and jewellery from a studio in her home in Kilmarnock.

“I am absolutely over the moon,” said Corrine.

“To have won two years in a row is just outstanding.

“Knowing that my clients are so impressed with my service that they have taken the time to vote for me makes all the hard work worthwhile.”

During the past year, Corrine has added a number of celebrities to her list of clients including a top model and two TV personalties, who she cannot name for legal reasons.

Corrine said: “I think it is because I offer a completely personal service.

“It’s really important for me that all of my brides feel extra special on their big day knowing that their accessories have been carefully designed and created to complement their gown perfectly.”

She set up her company called Corrine Smith Design shortly after her wedding to Brian, an IT consultant, in 2002.

Her search for the perfect hair accessory led to disappointment at the lack of choice available, so she decided to turn her hobby of making jewellery into a business.

Corrine, who works part-time as a civil servant, has made a range of tiaras, priced from £50 to £180 for brides all over Europe and even in New Zealand.

As part of a recent trend for vintage bridal fashion, Corrine has also been designing birdcage veils.

Her ambition is to turn her jewellery business into a full-time venture.

The busy mum, who has a three-year-old son called Finlay, will be hosting jewellery parties in the run up to Christmas to unveil her latest designs in costume jewellery.
