LOTTERY funding is being sought by East Ayrshire Council for a major facelift to Darvel’s Morton Park.
Last week’s meeting of the council’s cabinet agreed in principle to spend £170,000 on improvements to the Irvine Valley park in the financial year 2010/11 and to make a grant application to the Heritage Lottery Fund’s parks for people programme.
The move follows restoration work at Kilmarnock’s Kay Park and planned improvements to the town’s Howard Park.
The move was welcomed by Darvel councillor Bobby McDill.
He told the meeting: “It is a well-loved park. In good weather it is spectacular.”
Councillor McDill said that parts of the park, particularly the paths, were in urgent need of attention.
