Galston girl hopes to win top modelling contract

A FORMER prison worker from Galston has swapped the cells for the catwalk in a bid to win a modelling contract.

Pretty Naomi Dawson worked in the shop at HMP Kilmarnock until recently but wanted to follow her modelling dream.

So she put herself forward for the Uber Girl 2009 competition and has reached the top 20.

If she makes the final, due to be held at the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow in August, she will be in with a chance of winning a one-year modelling contract, £10,000, a holiday and a photo shoot for the 2010 Uber Girl Scotland 2010 calendar.

Judges at the final will include Calum Best, son of late soccer genius George. Radio presenter Suzie McGuire will host the glitzy bash.

Naomi, 20, used to sell cigarettes and other goods to prisoners, but she hopes she can win enough public votes to take her to a more glamorous career.

She said: “More than 2500 entered the Uber Girl contact and I’m currently in the top 20. The top 10 girls will go through to the final and I really hope I make it.

“I entered Miss Scotland this year and didn’t progress and I was very disappointed. But I’m determined to go for it and win Uber Girl.”

Naomi has modelled in the past and her friends urged her to enter Uber Girl this year.

“They tell me I have the look and the body for it so I’m going to give it my best shot,” she said.

“I didn’t enjoy working at the prison and I was happy to get out of there. I’m sure modelling would be a lot more fun!”

A former pupil of St Joseph’s Academy, Naomi recently got engaged to William Finnegan, 26.

To vote for her, text ‘UBER 36’ to 63333 or phone 0901 307 1177 and follow the instructions. Texts and calls cost 50p plus your normal network charges.
