Kilmarnock Rugby Club and Fenwick pub raise cash for charity

CUSTOMERS from the King’s Arms in Fenwick, members of Kilmarnock Rugby Football Club and friends have been busy over the past 18 months raising cash for Cancer Research UK.

Various fundraising events have taken place, including a sponsored football match between the King’s Arms Old Boys and the Kings Arms Sunday League team.

Andrew and Emily Moore of Moorholm kindly held an open day which raised £650 and when Carole and Ian Calderwood’s celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary, guests were asked to make a donation rather than bring a present.

There was also a rugby stand at Fenwick gala day and Kilmaurs Farmers show, an unusual sponsored ‘sober’ - Ian Calderwood didn’t have an alcoholic drink for six weeks, a KRFC ladies sponsored lunch and two games nights in the King’s Arms.

And Roddy and Elenor McGreggor raised funds at their 40th birthday bash and the inter district farmers rugby tournament on January 2, 2008.

Ali McCall, president of Kilmarnock Rugby Football Club, said: “A grand total of £8000 was raised and our grateful thanks must go to everyone that helped us raise this fantastic total.”

On Friday Rowan Main from Cancer Research joined regulars from the pub and rugby club members to receive a giant cheque.
