Cash boost for Ayrshire shinty festival

THE Stanley Morrison Charitable Trust is once again supporting Ayrshire Sportsability by donating £2000.

The donation means that the charity will host Ayrshire’s second shinty festival in 2009 for children and young people with learning or physical disabilities.

Ayrshire Sportsability offers children and young people the chance to take part in sporting activities that they may not normally have the opportunity to try.

In April 2008 the charity hosted Ayrshire’s first ever shinty festival for school pupils, aged between 12 and 18, with funding from the Stanley Morrison Charitable Trust.

More than 40 pupils took part in the festival at Kilmarnock College Sporting Centre. Park School came out top, winning the Ayrshire Sportsability and The Stanley Morrison Charitable Trust quaich.

Park School then went on to win the national shinty tournament in Aviemore in April 2008.

Dr Wai-yin Hatton, chair of Ayrshire Sportsability and Chief Executive of NHS Ayrshire and Arran, said: “This donation means we will be able to offer more children and young people with learning or physical disabilities the chance to take part in sporting activities. I would like to thank the Stanley Morrison Charitable Trust for its kind donation and continued support.”
