Killie FC kicks off young people’s skills scheme

KILMARNOCK FC are helping to get young people into work.

The football club, in partnership with Kilmarnock College, East Ayrshire Council and North Ayrshire Council have launched a new innovative programme called ‘Skills for Work’.

The 'Skills for Work: SVQ Sport and Recreation/Football Intermediate 1 and 2' is delivered at Rugby Park and results in each young person in receiving SVQ Accreditation.

In attendance at the launch were Councillors John MacKay and Kathy Morrice along with Kilmarnock FC chairman Michael Johnston, assistant principal of Kilmarnock College Gianna Devin and representatives of East Ayrshire and North Ayrshire Council.

Carol Nisbet, manager of the More Choices More Chances programme said: “It was great to see how the young people are benefiting from the innovative approach to delivering the Skills for Work programme, using the range of skills and experiences of the staff in our partnership.

“They are definitely gaining in confidence and developing leadership skills as well as progressing well with the qualification.

“I believe we also have a queue of young people waiting to start the course next year – that's got to be a good sign!”

Killie chairman Michael Johnston said: “Kilmarnock Football Club is delighted to be working in close partnership with Kilmarnock College in delivering ‘Skills for Work’ to the young people of East and North Ayrshire.

“This further expansion of the club's community programme underscores our commitment to helping local teenagers follow a healthy lifestyle while gaining further education with a view to gainful employment.”
