Latest Ayrshire fishing: July 2

COYLE Water Fishery (Coylton): Fly pond stocking policies along with a lot of weed removal are paying dividends now.

The fly pond is fishing very well.

Mornings and evenings to dusk are fishing the best because of glorious sunshine witch is putting the fish down.

People who persevere and go down after the fish are doing very well in these conditions using weighted buzzers and nymphs.

A wide selection of lures are having the most success

Mr Galloway and Mr Dorns had great day fishing in the deepest corner of the loch with damsels and nymphs with 19 fish between them. Stewart Cameron and three friends from Glasgow had a great day on catch and release with more that 30 fish between them.

The busy bait pond is fishing very well with fish being caught on the top and on the bottom. Power bait is doing well but much success is being had with our recent stocking of live bait.

Mr Cooper and his son had another great day walking away with a full bag of five fish weighing in at 9lb 2oz. Mr Paterson also had a great bag of five fish for 9lb.

The Coyle Water doubles on Sunday drew a very healthy turnout. Coming out on top again with 11 fish were Dougie Ingles (nine fish) with his new partner Simon Littlejon.

Joe Morrison and Ryan Mcilwraith from Coyle Water were second with Ryan getting seven fish from the first three pegs and Joe picking up two.

Third with seven fish were Stevie Pringle and Gerry Hendry after arriving late from Paisley. The heaviest fish prize outwith the top three went to veteran angler Billy Dale from Glasgow.

SPRINGWATER Fishery (Dalrymple): fly pond still fishing well. Colin Walker of Ayr released 14 hard fighting rainbows.

Capper released 12 on a three hour session while, not to be outdone, young Robert Dunnachie released a fish of 10lbs.

The Harbour Lights Club from Irvine had their summer cup competition with all but two of them getting their four fish limit.

Eleven anglers had 40 fish between them, winner on the night was Gary Marlow woth four fish for 9lb 15 oz.

Bait pond fished a bit better. Best bag was Kenny Cunningham with three fish for 9lb 10 oz, biggest 4lb 5oz. On the coarse pond, the small carp showed very briefly. Rob had six small carp on corn fishing shallow while Jim Anderson had a nice tench of 5lbs and a good net of roach. Best bait was corn.

BURNS Trout Fishery (Tarbolton): The fishery is holding an under 16 open competition (fly or bait) on Saturday, four fish limit, heaviest bag wins, £15 entry with trophies for first three. Bookings to 07904 469707.

PRESTWICK (Raith Reservoir): Previous week returns show some interesting bags. Father and son, John and Scott Kelly from Glasgow, had five fish, John and David Balfour had three, Murray Spence had five while G. Cowan returned two.

All the other regulars were conspicuous by their absence, some on holiday, the senior citizens just not there.

After a good stocking, Saturday was to prove the most peculiar day of the week.

Although poorly attended by members, the amount of fish that were lost outweighed the ones that were landed. Henry McConnell eventually bagged four for 9lbs 12oz on a gold head hopper from the boat.

Next on the boat were Campbell Maitland and Frazer Lawson who landed five between them on a small dunkeld.

Bob Younger had two blue and one rainbow on power bait and again lost one. D. Crone and L. Crone had five between them. Everyone agreed the takes were of a very soft nature, especially the members who never managed to land any of their fish.

The club thanks Willie Parker who brought up his own mower and cut the grass around the entire loch.

Work parties has been arranged for Sundays July 12 and 26 from 9am until midday. The focus will be the grass and general maintenance. If as many members possible could attend it would be appreciated.
