Youngsters’ weight of expectation
KILMARNOCK Amateur Weightlifing Club sent a total of 15 lifters to Pitlochry recently.
The club had nine lifters in the U13 Development Competition and the results were: Arron Stevenson, age 8 in the 30kg class, 1st; Perri Pearson, age 8 in the 30kg class, 2nd; Adam McLean, age 9 in the 35kg class, 1st; Graeme Doughty, age 9 in the 40kg class, 1st; Koby Adams, age 10 in the 50kg class, 1st; Sandy Hamilton, age 10 in the 40kg class, 3rd; Ryan Byrne, age 11 in the 40kg class, 2nd; Jamie Byrne, age 11 in the 40kg class, 1st; Stuart Doughty, age 11 in the 45kg class, 1st.
In the U16 girls class, the club had three lifters who all achieved gold.
Best female lifter of the day was Toni Hamilton who achieved several personal bests and broke under-17 Scottish records.
The results were: Chelbi Hillan age 10 in the 58kg class, 1st, Connie England age 16 in the 53kg
class, 1st, Toni Hamilton age 15 in the 63kg class, 1st.
In the U16 male class, the club had three lifters. First up was Robert Blair who won gold on body weight.
Next up was Jordan Haydon who did new personal bests and Scottish U17 Records. Last up was 17-year-old Kyle Pearson, who, lifting as a guest, did well to do a personal best total.
The lifts were: Robert Blair, snatch 30kg, clean and jerk 49kg to give him a total of 82kg to win the 40kg class; Jordan Haydon, snatch 67kg, clean and jerk 81kg to give him a total of 148kg to win the 69kg class; Kyle Pearson, snatch 90kg, clean and jerk 115kg to give him a total of 205kg in the 85kg class.
Head coach Charlie Hamilton would like to thank parents and friends for getting the kids there and back, as it was a very successful day for the club. Also a thank you to Georgi Black, the devlopment coach.
