Latest Ayrshire fishing: June 25

SPRINGWATER Fishery (Dalrymple): Fly pond continues to fish exceptionally well.

Best catch goes to Colin Walker who released 19 rainbows. Two fish weighed in at 9lb 8oz and 7lb 4oz, the fish were caught on pheasant tail nymphs and diwal bachs. Shorty had a short evening session releasing 10 using small drys.

Bait pond was slow this week with the fish playing hard to get. Coarse pond was a little bit better with some of the small carp starting to show along with good roach and rudd.

PRESTWICK (Raith Reservoir): The week of bad weather kept the less hardy anglers indoors. The ones that braved the elements were rewarded with nice quality fish.

The weekend’s nice weather brought out a good attendance and again it proved worth it. Strangely though, everyone had the same story – they all had to be somewhere else at 11am on Saturday?

Derrick Caldwell had three nice fish on the mepp, son Derrick managed only the one. Jim Gillespie landed two on power bait, one of which was 4lbs, there were no shortages of witnesses to the one that got away. After a long battle, it eventually broke the line.

Eight-year-old grandson Adam also had two for 5lbs on power bait. Henry McConnell had two for 6lbs on a gold head daddies. Another return showed two on a blue peacock spider one of which was 3lbs 14oz.

The back shift arrived in the form of Jock Patterson and Andy Faichney who both had bag limits on the running worm. Sunday was the same but this time Andy had changed tactics and was floating power bait. Included in his bag was a 5lbs blue trout. These two senior citizens give their fish to the less fortunate anglers so nobody went away disappointed.
