SPRINGWATER (Dalrymple): The coarse pond will be closed on Sunday until 5pm as Springwater hosts the first of its three qualifiers for next year’s Ayrstrike competition.

Sixteen qualifiers will be held throughout Scotland with the final at Springwater for the second year in a row when there is winner take all prize money of £5000. Sunday’s qualifier runs from 11am to 4pm with around 15 hopefuls taking part.

COYLE WATER FISHERY (Coylton): Fly pond: Fishing much improved during the past week with fish not feeding quite so selectively. Floating Lines are still the best tactic teamed with small olive or black buzzers or dry flies. CDCs being stripped just sub surface have been taking fish well.

Messrs Longridge, Rae and Wilson from Linwood went away with two fish apiece weighing in at 17lbs 6oz. Hugh Taylor fishing his HTS, his secret tying, took two fish for 8lbs 4oz. Mr Williamson from Forfar took one fish for 3lbs on a shipman’s buzzer.

Mr Graham snr broke his recent spate of ducks taking a fish of 2lbs 12oz. Mr Gorman and Mr Hill took a fish apiece on Daddies weighing in at 5lbs. Mike Denton had a good day taking seven on CDC and Yellow Dancer. Three of the Hartlepool football team (Wood, Lewis and Dark) popped in with their trainer for some respite from training prior to their pre season match against Falkirk taking three fish between them for 12lbs and releasing another two. Davy Dick went past the post by a neck this week against adversary Ian Kilpatrick.

Mornings and evenings are definitely seeing the best of the fishing with fish going quieter during the afternoons. Names are still being taken for the evening competition on Friday, August 1. Call the Fishery on 01292 571291.

The bait pond has fished extremely well all week with some excellent bags coming off. Mr Soons six fish for 11lbs 12oz, Mr Adam two for 4lbs 8oz, Mr Steel five for 11lbs, Mr Coyne five for 10lbs 4oz, Mr McChesney and son took five for 9lbs 8oz, Mr Laird four for 7lbs 8oz. Mr Robertson, on a family ticket and staying at Crofthead Caravan Park, took five nice fish for 10lbs.

Power Bait and Worms fished under the Bubble Float have been the best tactics by far this week.

BURNS TROUT FISHERY (Tarbolton): On Sunday August 3, the fishery holds the Mima Harvey Memorial Open Fly competition sponsored by Gamesport of Ayr and also the Burns Trout Fishery Open competition sponsored by Crockets Outdoor and Equestrian of Ayr. Both will run from 8am to 4pm and will be four fish limit, heaviest bag wins and trophies for first three. Contact pond and leave your name to guarantee your space.

The fishery was visited by Lillybank AC who took 51 fish between them. Heaviest bag went to A. Love with four for 10lb 12oz, heaviest fish went to G. Anderson with a lovely fish weighing 5lb 5oz.
