Rugby: Killie S1 lose to Cumnock

KILLIE faced Cumnock in their last game of the season at Bellsland on Sunday.

The two teams had met recently in the Ayrshire Schools’ Championship where Kilmarnock’s Grange Academy boys were victorious and Cumnock were keen to redress the balance.

The match started with some good open play and in particular there was some excellent passing and movement from both teams.

The ball was proving difficult to handle due to the wet ground and strong breeze.

Cumnock made the best of their possession, scoring two tries in the first half.

Killie emerged in the second half with passion and determination to get back on terms with Lewis Young, Justin Kiddell, Angus Kerr and Matthew Cowan putting in some big tackles when needed.

It was however not to be Killie’s day as Cumnock ran out a further three tries in the second half.

Killie however remained determined despite an inevitable defeat.

They had Cumnock pinned inside their own 22 and got their reward for their efforts as Eoin Hughes scored Killie’s sole try.
