KILMARNOCK 3rds travelled to Cambuslang on Saturday with the thought of being league champions in the back of their minds.
Kilmarnock were on the back foot from the kick off, but they motivated themselves after just five minutes with a try from Kieran Grant, 5-0 to Kilmarnock.
The game swung from end to end, but there was no further scoring until 20 minutes into the first half,, when Cambuslang scored a try and converted, to take a 7-5 lead.
Kilmarnock were not going to be beaten on this day though, and with a instant reply by Craig Hay they regained the lead.
Hay then scored again on 29 minutes to give Killie a 15-7 lead at half time.
Hay started the first half as he ended the first, with a try which was converted by Patrick Tevenan, who then scored a try for himself just two minutes later, and he converted that one as well.
Cambuslang replied at this point with a good try from their young stand-off.
Things went quiet again until the 50th minute, when Richard Tannahill scored from a well-worked backs move, and he added the conversion himself.
This was to be the last score of the game and Kilmarnock won 36-12.
Kilmarnock are now West of Scotland league champions and will play their last league game this Saturday at home to Cumbernauld.
Kilmarnock’s Craig Hay was man of the match.
