Kilmarnock Rugby Club's mini section enjoys Helensburgh away day

KILMARNOCK mini rugby section travelled to Helensburgh recently, and despite the torrential rain that started just as the games kicked off, it ended up a very successful afternoon, particularly for Killie.

P3: Kilmarnock 3, Helensburgh 1. Kilmarnock had an impressive win, particularly considering the Fraser twins, Callum and Ethan are only in P2. Scorer was Ethan Fraser. Team members Kyle McLellan and Lauren McIver also played very well with Lauren playing her first game and wearing wellies!

P4: Kilmarnock 7, Helensburgh 5. This was an entertaining and keenly contested match. Head coach Kyle Pearson had the P4 team training on Wednesday on the tackle bags and this obviously paid off with some great tackles being made by the whole team.

Scorers were Robbie Paxton with six tries and Adam McIver with one try. There was great tackling and passing from Martin Dyer, Dylan Scoular, and from Scott and Jack Mains. Man of the match was shared between Robbie Paxton and Martin Dyer.

P6: Kilmarnock 7, Helensburgh 2. The P6 team really ran the show with a great display of fine tackling, driving over at the rucks and good support play.

Scorers were Bradley Smith, Angus Kerr(2) Ben O’Neill, Gregor Paxton (2) and Euan Strachan. Eoin Hughes was always eager to help out and made some great passes, David Tweedie won a lot of loose ball, Dylan Allan drove over well and Gavin Munro was solid in the scrum.

P7: Kilmarnock 1, Helensburgh 1. A draw was the right result in a very closely fought match.

In driving rain and wind the boys did very well, coming back from 1-0 down at half time to draw the game with a great individual try by David Smith.
