Football: Darvel shape up nicely to beat Salcoats

Saltcoats 0 Darvel 2 Ayrshire League

Goals from Sean Scott and new signing Adam Black sealed three points for Darvel away to Saltcoats in the Ayrshire League on Saturday.

Boss Iain Kearney andassistant Billy McGaw had set the team up well. Alan Orr was probably in his best position at full back, Scott was fully recovered from injury in midfield and Jordan Ryan was back alongside new signings Scott (Paddy) Clelland and Black.

As the first half progressed, Darvel carved out a number of very good chances with Black and Hislop coming close but Sean Scott grabbed the opener slotting the ball home from close range.

Darvel keeper Niall McGarva didn’t have a save to make in the first 45 minutes.

Saltcoats were fired up after the break with captain Brian Slaven, moved from the centre of defence to lead the attack, making his presence felt. Darvel’s defence, marshalled by McConnell, limited the home team to a couple of half chances.

Even though Saltcoats had the bulk of possession, Darvel looked the more likely to score with Walker and Hislop posing a real threat.

In one of his many runs down the right, Walker tricked his way past two defenders before sending over a superb cross for Black to seal the points.

A great team performance saw Darvel climb to seventh in the table.

This Saturday, Darvel are away to second bottom Craigmark Burtonians.

The club want to thank Darvel firm Jim Wylie Financial Services for their generous sponsorship.
