A GOAL from trialist Simon Eeles sealed Hurlford’s win over Thorniewood at Blair Park on Saturday stretching their unbeaten run to five games.
On nine minutes, Ford’s experienced John Craig shot narrowly past the visitors’ upright before a blistering Martyn Brown shot brought a terrific save from the Thorniewood keeper.
The visitors were stung into action and a free-kick awarded against Ford just outside the box went close.
This was followed by Thorniewood’s best move of the game when their left winger ran on to a superb 40 yard defence splitting pass to shave Ford’s upright.
On 15 minutes, Sam Nimmo, back after a coaching spell in America, beat two defenders on the right and let fly with a shot which the away keeper could only parry and the onrushing Craig was thwarted by a brave recovery save.
On the half hour mark, Thorniewood keeper got his foot to a Nimmo shot from 15 yards out and Nimmo’s effort from a corner was cleared by a defender some 10 minutes later.
After the break, the Thorniewood keeper was replaced after suffering a suspected broken wrist.
Ford continued on the attack with Nimmo again coming close after screwing a shot past the post and Craig being foiled by a diving save to his feet.
The Ford goal came on the hour mark. Eeles, an Irvine Meadow winger on trial, beat two defenders before stroking a low drive from just outside the box which nestled in the back of the net.
Further attempts to stretch the lead were made by Craig and new boy George Wallace twice, all of which were dealt with by the sub goalie.
Approaching the final whistle, sub Paul Walker skinned the full back to deliver a great ball to the far post which Sullivan who had run all of 40 yards just failed to reach with the goalie beaten.
Ford will welcome Kilsyth to Blair Park this Saturday, kick-off is at 2pm.
With the continued absence of Stevie O’Neill due to work commitments, manager Del McCulloch is looking for an experienced goalie.
Ford have transferred Stevie Greenlees to Central First Division team St Roch’s. Ex-Dumbarton and Irvine Meadow striker Paddy Flannery has been made available for transfer or loan, enquiries to John West on 07748 828380.
