EDF Energy Ayrshire Cup First Round
A SCOTT Johnstone goal at the death sealed Fenwick’s spot in the cup’s second round on Saturday.
Second division side Westkirk had fought back from being behind three times.
Fenwick started off well with an Ally Wyper effort stinging the outside of the post.
It wasn’t long before Fenwick took the lead when Mark Miller smashed home an effort.
Fenwick kept up their pressure with a Greg Murphy effort tipped over.
Westkirk then forced keeper Scott Benzie to make a good save.
Fenwick missed a few chances before Murphy knocked the ball across for Chris Jones to slip home his debut goal on 35 minutes.
Further efforts saw Wyper and Jones have shots blocked as Fenwick’s dominance looked to have the game beyond doubt.
However, Westkirk drew level scoring twice within eight minutes of the restart.
Fenwick lifted their game with a Scott Johnstone deflected free kick hitting the bar.
On 66 minutes, a Jones through ball saw Wyper cross to allow Gregor England to scramble the ball home.
Jones then saw another effort go crashing over.
Westkirk equalised again on 72 minutes.
Both teams battled hard to stay in the competition with John McLean coming close for Fenwick.
On almost the last kick of the ball, Johnstone chipped home for Fenwick.
The club want to thank Thistle Cabs for their sponsorship for this season.
