Danny’s double puts Killie on easy street at Airdrie

A THREE-GOAL win over Airdrie gave the noisy Killie travelling support something to cheer about following news that former New Broomfield striker Allan Russell will be out injured for a couple of months.

In their first pre-season match on domestic soil, a Danny Invincibile brace and a rare strike from midfielder Jamie Fowler sealed a comfortable win for the SPL side.

Mehdi Taouil set up an early opportunity for Invincibile, but the Aussie, playing in the striking role, missed the target from 20 yards.

But the home side, with ex-Killie man Paul Di Giacomo in their line-up, almost opened the scoring when Darren Smith’s header from a Steven McDougall cross went wide of the goal.

Killie made the breakthrough on 37 minutes when Fowler netted with a 20-yard shot into the home net, despite goalkeeper Stephen Robertson getting a hand to the ball.

Killie rang the changes after the break, with Damien Rascle, Martyn Corrigan, Fowler and Gavin Skelton being replaced by Chad Harpur, Grant Murray, Gary Locke and Jamie Hamill.

Invincible scored the first of his double on 58 minutes after David Fernandez sent him clear on a defence-splitting pass.

And two minutes from the end Danny boy netted a spectacular third, curling the ball just inside the post.

In the end a good workout for the Killie squad as the preparations for the new season continue.
