Hurlford Thistle keep league focus

HURLFORD met their opponents from South Ayrshire for the fourth time this season, and with Mossblown needing points to stay up, a good game was in prospect.

The first 20 minutes were reasonably even with Thistle probably just shading it. The game came to life on 25 minutes when a deep diagonal ball from the left was missed by the visitors’ defence and Easton popped up unseen to lash the ball into the net.

The second half was only two minutes old when G Gilroy was fouled out on the right touchline.

He took the kick and floated the ball into the box where Dayer got his foot to the ball and steered it past the visiting keeper.

Mossblown went for broke at this stage as they could see their Premier League status slipping away.

However, the home defence repelled everything being thrown at them and with Mossblown pushing men forward, Thistle found more space and passed up a few chances to put the game beyond doubt. With Hurlford winning this match Mossblown have been relegated to the First Division.

Hurlford players, management and committee hope it won’t be long before they are back in the top legue.

Hurlford players, management and committee would like to thank Craig Billham, Executive Travel for providing transport to and from Rugby Park this Friday for their Ayrshire Cup Final.

Hurlford Thistle are still taking names for the buses for their Scottish Cup Final on Sunday, May 31. To secure your seat, leave your name and £5 behind the bar of The Thistle. The book for buses will close on Thursday, May 28, at 6pm.

Hurlford crashed out of this year’s Walker & Templeton Trophy after being defeated by Ayr Ams 2-0 in the semi-final at Portland Park, Troon last Friday night.
