Kilmaurs Thistle Boys Club hold sponsored walk

KILMAURS Thistle Boys FC recently had a sponsored 5K walk and raised over £1500.

The cash went to purchase presentation polo shirts and tracksuits for the under-10 and under-11 teams which attended a weekend festival of football in North Wales.

The club travelled by bus and participated in the tournament in May, staying at the Haven Holiday camp near Snowdonia.

An excellent weekend of football for the players and a great get-together for the large number of parents that attended culminated in the under-10s missing out narrowly on a semi-final place, but the under-11 team competing and losing in a tense-fought semi-final 1-0.

The club played teams from mainly England and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Many thanks to the sponsors such as Ladeside Motors, Hawkwind Sports, and The Killie Trust to name but a few and everyone else that donated finance to the club. A very kind parent from the under-11 team also carried out a sponsored cycle on behalf of the club and raised £169 on our behalf, which was gratefully accepted.

The under-12s (born in 1997) team will start training on Wednesday, July 16, at Morton Park in Kilmaurs. Players who wish to attend for a trial can contact Gary Caldwell on 01563 533957 or 07770 210328.

For information on the under-11s (born in 1998) call Colin Shearer on 07890249220.

The under-11 team is on the lookout for a goalkeeper who has played in that position before or who shows a willingness to change postion. Goalkeeping coaching is available within the club itself.
