Darvel 0 Winton 1
DARVEL boss George Grierson says his players were missing the killer touch on Saturday.
“There was absolutely nothing between the two teams,” said George.
“All that was lacking from us was the final pass. Otherwise, I couldn’t fault the boys.”
Promotion-chasing Winton won the points at Recreation Park with a tap-in from a rebound on 20 minutes.
It was frustrating for keeper Ally McGhee who had pulled off a stunning save to keep the first effort out.
Prior to the goal, Darvel’s Chris Dallas had been tirelessly working down the line, putting crosses in across the face of goal but no-one could find the final touch to slot the ball home.
Darvel had the majority of the possession in the second half as well, but still the ball did not find its way into the back of the net.
And Winton remained camped out in their half for the rest of the game, but held on to take all three points.
BRUCE McMaster is back to full fitness after a groin strain.
Adam Black came on for the last 20 minutes against Winton after being out of action for six weeks because of an injury to his achilles tendon.
And that all means that Darvel have a full squad available for round one of the Ayrshire Cup against Ardeer this Saturday.
Recreation Park boss George said: “We have been talking about building up our game for next season, but we are out to do well in the cup this season.
“Ardeer has a new manager so it should be a good game. I hope people turn out to watch it.” Kick-off at Recreation Park is 2pm.
Darvel: McGhee, Taylor, Whittaker, Johnston, Lynch, Dunlop, Bonner, Otigbah, Hislop, McMaster, Dallas. Subs: Dean Black, Adam Black, Scott, McDonald, Koukos.
