Triathlon: Hot stuff in Ayrodynamic’s sprint triathlon

SUPER weather led to ideal racing in Ayrodynamic Triathlon Club’s annual sprint triathlon.

The 750m swim, 20k cycle and 5k run were held at the mouth of the River Doon where the swim section took place.

The 20k cycle headed out to Dunure and back with the 5k run heading up the track past Greenan Castle before winding back down through Doonfoot to the finish.

The event attracted a quality field, including current world age group champion Graham Leitch (Fusion TC) who broke the course record in 1.00.56.

Competing in his first sprint triathlon was Ayrodynamic’s Finlay Rae, who was keen to test himself over the longer distance. From the starting whistle, Finlay opened a gap in the swim which gave him a 40 second lead over second placed Greg Turner (also Ayrodynamic) going on to the bike leg.

Finlay managed to maintain the lead on the bike until Dunure where experienced cyclist Leitch, having made up his lost minute, then pushed ahead a further half minute.

The positions remained unchanged over the tough 5k run. In the ladies race, Fusion’s Emma Lamont, Kay McWilliam (vet) and Sharon Lamont took the first three spots with Ayro’s Lorna Todd fourth overall and third senior.

Newly vintage Grant Young won the vintage category in 1.17.56.

Other Ayrodynamic finishers included Greg Turner (1.05.59), David Auchie, (1.10.31), Alastair Stewart (1.18.11), Per Andresson (1.19.41), Joseph Harvey (1.20.13), Lorna Todd (1.20.45), Ewan Currie (1.25.08), Sarah Sigley (1.27.33), Murat Gurun (1.31.39), Pauline Paul (1.34.18), Alan Robertson (1.38.59), Scott Mckinnon (1.49.52).
