Kilmarnock harrier wins silver medal

A YOUNG athlete has just won a silver medal in a sport he only trains for part-time using makeshift facilities.

Cory O’Hara, 15, came second in the Scottish Athletics Under 15s Closed Championships at Wishaw in the long jump.

His proud coach at Kilmarnock Harriers, Danny Steele, said: “Cory has worked really hard, and this is all down to that and his natural ability as we don’t have proper long jump facilities at Scott Ellis.

“He can’t train at all during the winter months, and all that underlines is what makes his achievement so remarkable.”

Cory, a pupil at Grange Academy, jumped 5.43m to win the silver medal, and is also trained by Gordon Miller, who is also delighted with the talented teenager’s efforts.
