Kilmarnock Harriers put their best feet forward in challenge

THE going favoured the foot soldiers as the runners and riders lined up for Irvine Athletic Club’s annual Harriers v Cyclists race over Irvine Moor on Sunday.

Last year the race was dominated by Walkers Cycling Club, but days of heavy rain had left the course almost bog-like in places, and it was the runners who found the going more to their liking.

First home was Irvine AC’s Alex Allardyce who splashed his way round in 30 minutes 22 seconds, just four seconds ahead of Kilmarnock’s Keith Haining.

Third overall and first cyclist home was Marcus Sheilds of Ayr Roads who covered the course in 31.15.
