Loudoun Academy sprinter scoops bronze

DAVID Clark, 17, a sixth year pupil at Loudoun Academy, was third in the 100m finals at the Games, and missed out on a second bronze in the 200m by just 0.05 of a second.

David, who stays near Hurlford with mum Aileen, gran Jessie and two brothers Jamie and Jordan, is delighted with his success so far.

The teenager, who is a member of Glasgow Victoria athletics club, said: “I had a great time at the World Youth Games, which were held in Gothenburg, Sweden.

“To win the bronze medal was absolutely brilliant and I came very close to winning another medal.”

The teenager stated running with the Kilmarnock Harriers as a 10-year-old and is now training hard to achieve a place at the London Olympics in 2012 and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow two years later.

David added: “That is my big ambition and I have been really working hard to improve to get to both the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games. It would be the ultimate to get to both and compete in front of a home crowd.”

David’s other successes this year include two bronze medals at the Scottish Under 20 Championship at Grangemouth; a semi-final place at the AAAChampionship in Bedford; and a silver medal at the Scottish Schools Championships.
