Darvel 1 Kilmarnock Ams1 Killie win 5-4 on penalties

Kilmarnock needed penalties to see off Darvel 5-4 with keeper Blair Cousar scoring the winner in the first round of the Donsport Cup on Saturday.

The away side were awarded a penalty early on but midfielder Kieran Brown missed the spotkick.

Kilmarnock took the lead at half-time when Grant Lyon worked his way down the right flank before playing John McCormack in to score from close range.

The game swung from end to end and Ryan Hunter almost doubled Kilmarnock’s lead when his free kick came off under side of the bar.

Kilmarnock were then caught on the counter attack and Darvel made no mistake stabbing home from close range.

The game then went to extra-time but Kilmarnock were unable to find the all important winning goal and the game went to penalties.

Reece Carmichael, Grant Lyon, Barry Dunsmore and Stuart McTurk all converted from 12 yards with Blair Cousar making the all important save giving the goalkeeper the opportunity to score the winner. He confidently side footed his penalty high into the corner of the net.

Kilmarnock will host Shortlees in the next round.
