Kilmarnock Amateur Weightlifting Club (KAWLC) hosted a record-breaking Scottish Senior Championships.
The club’s eight qualified lifters picked up a superb six titles and smashed national junior and senior records during the competition at their Shortlees gym.
Sophie Smyth, who was named best female lifter of the competition, snatched 61kg for a new personal best and clean and jerked 76kg to total 137kg for gold in the 63kg class.
Georgi Black unfortunately missed all three of her snatch lifts in the 69kg class. She clean and jerked 100kg, only just missing out on a new British under-23 record of 104kg.
Robert Smith broke all his personal bests, lifting in his first senior championships. He snatched 65kg and clean and jerked 76kg to total 141kg for gold in the 56kg class.
Steven McMichael snatched 80kg but sadly missed all three of his clean and jerks at 100kg in the 62kg.
Winning gold in the 69kg class, Craig Carfray snatched 109kg for a new Scottish junior, under-23 and senior record and clean and jerked 130kg to total 239kg.
Graeme Kane snatched 120kg and clean and jerked 150kg to total 270kg for gold in the 77kg class.
Dale Cree added to his British senior title with a 113kg snatch and a 140kg clean and jerk to total 253kg for gold in the 85kg class.
In his first event since his injury at the Olympics, Peter Kirkbride snatched 125kg and clean and jerked 175kg to total 300kg and win gold in the 94kg class.
Head coach Charlie Hamilton said: “It was a great day’s lifting and results for the club.”
Well done and good luck to Craig Carfray who has been selected to compete for Great Britain at the Europeans in Israel next month.
