MEIKLEWOOD were crowned champions at the Irvine Fencing James Fowler five-a-side tournament, held at Lucozade Powerleague Kilmarnock.
They beat Underdogs by a solitary goal in the final with 30 teams, in total, competing on the day.
Meiklewood keeper Ryan Cairns was voted player of the tournament.
As well as a trophy, Meiklewood will be presented with a one-off set of embroidered kits, designed and supplied courtesy of Drew Campbell 1869, during half-time at Fowler’s testimonial game against Sheffield Wednesday at Rugby Park on Wednesday, August 8.
Sponsorship is being taken for the programme in that match to mark James’s 400 appearances for Killie. It costs £10 with all entries given a signed certificate from James. Any of the lucky ones allocated a game in which Fowler scored one of his seven goals for the club will win a rare bottle of ‘Famous Fowler’ whisky produced in conjunction with Hugh Brown of the ‘The Famous Grouse.’
There will also be a draw for a signed jersey to be presented on the pitch on the night. All entries should be submitted to Kevin Collins at email@example.com
Companies can still enter the competition to have their name emblazoned on the match kit sleeves or shorts. Entry, costing £200, remains open until next Friday (July 13). All entrants will receive two tickets for the game including the after match reception and prizegiving.
The testimonial committee want to thank all the teams at the five-a-side tournament, Tommy Adams, of Kilmarnock FC, and Peter Alexander, of Powerleague, for organising the competition and Varani’s Forum in Kilmarnock for donating ice cream.
