The next Superteams is on Saturday, February 13.
A FEW of the senior members were racing at the national 4km cross country championships in Bellahouston Park, and Les McDerment joined three younger athletes for the frantic men’s event.
All did very well, with some good personal battles.
Cameron Wilson just pipped James Wales in the Kilmarnock stakes, but there wasn’t too much between everyone which bodes well for the future.
All athletes also beat there previous course bests, with the exception of Ross Connelly who was competing for the first time and can be very happy with a great debut in this class of field.
The Killie team combined for eighth position.
The times were – Cameron Wilson 12.48 (29), James Wales 13.17 (45), Ross Connelly 13.30 (48), Les McDerment 14.35 (67).
Lone Harrier Paula Wilson took her place in the following ladies race, and again smashed her time from the last time on the course.
Paula clocked 16.34 which was good enough to finish 28.
BRIAN McEwan was at Wolverhampton for the annual Tough Guy Endurance race which was founded in the 80’s by the army.
The race involved numerous obstacles including fire, barbed wire and breaking through ice to make room to wade through water. Not for the fainthearted, and everyone taking part has to sign a disclaimer in case of death.
Some 5000 hardy souls took part, and Killie’s Brian again showed astonishing endurance.
In third spot after the initial cross country part of the race, Brian stuck in well during the hazards and, at the end of the race, had claimed a position which was still to be confirmed but inside the top 40 which was an amazing result.
The next test for Brian will be at Forres on Saturday where the National Masters Cross Country takes place, and Paula Wilson, Connell Drummond and Scott Martin will also compete.
Connell hopes to run a bus to Alloa for March’s half marathon. Anyone interested in attending should contact him soon in order for him to assess interest.
