MEMBERS of Kilmarnock’s Sakai Karate Club attended the Scottish Championships at Edinburgh’s Meadowbank Stadium.
A total of 32 fighters from the Kilmarnock club competed and came back with an impressive haul of medals.
In the junior sections, the club did exceptionally well, with Lewis Hood coming first and Sunny Sherry coming third in the boys under 4 feet.
In the boys under 4 feet 4, Scott Weir came third; Ryan Gordon was third in the boys under 5 feet, Samantha Nicol was third in the girls under 4 feet 8 and Gary Kelly was third boys under 5 feet 7.
In the senior section, Steven McCall was third in the men’s junior grades, Jacqueline Brown was second in the women junior grades, Paul Haswell was first cadet under 70 kilo, Christina Bechelli was first in the women junior grades, Craig Moffat was first in the men’s senior under 75 kilo.
In the team events, Lewis Hood and Sunny Sherry were the champions of the under 4 feet section. Kevin Weir, Adam El Shafei and Taylor Holloway were third in the under 5 feet teams and the cadet team of Paul Haswell, David Kelly and Cameron Blair were also third.
David And Kris Coulter, the coaches at the event, were pleased with the results and performances of everyone, especially the juniors, and a special thanks to all the parents and supporters who travelled to Edinburgh.
At the Meadowbank Open Junior Championships, the results were Adam El Shafei 1st Boys under 5 feet; Samantha Nicol 1st Girls under 5 feet ; Gary Kelly 1st Boys under 5 feet 7; Scott Wilson 1st cadet men and Justin Ronald 3rd, Men Cadet.
Craig Moffat has also just returned from Italy where he was representing the British Universities.
In an open event, Craig was first in his category at under 75 kilo.
