Cycling: Walkers brings bikes to Drumlanrig

WALKERS Cycling joined forces with Rik’s Bike Shed to bring a vast range of MTB and road bikes to Drumlanrig Castle for their first ever demo day.

With bikes from 10 manufacturers including Claud Butler, Cove, Cube, Giant and Marin, the masses were treated to an opportunity to test ride their dream machines on the Drumlanrig trails, and the estate roads.

The club MTB ride was led by the man behind the Drumlanrig Trails, Rik Allsop. Rik led around 15 riders (on a mixture of demo bikes and their own) on a combination of the red and black routes, taking advantage of his local knowledge to throw in as much single track as possible.

Tuesday night was a 10 mile time trial, which was made all the harder by the strong headwind over the first five miles, and no tailwind on the return leg! Everyone gave their best, and special mention goes to Tommy Gribbon, who just managed to dip below the 30 minute mark.

Results: Fraser 32.01; Gavin H 28.51; Martin K 30.50; Tommy 29.53; Anthony 28.37; Alex 30.00; Neil 25.37; Tremayne 26.57.

Next week’s MTB ride on Wednesday, July 30, is from Sorn.
