RECENT editions of the Kilmarnock Standard have brought to the attention of readers my sponsored walk of the St. Oswald’s Way, a long distance walk in Northumbria nearly 100 miles long.
I completed the walk on Thursday, April 9, enjoying six days of excellent weather and enduring only two hours of rain along the route on one of the days. Quite unbelievable.
I would like to take this opportunity of thanking the many individuals who sponsored me in aid of Hillside Special School, Cumnock and Lisalanna (Action for Children). Individuals are too numerous to name but donations ranged from £1 to £100 and I am grateful for their generosity.
I should also like to thank the following: the congregation and organisations of Galston Parish Church and St. Sophia's Church; Lodge St. Peter No. 331; customers of Wilma Scade, newsagent, Galston; staff, pupils and parents of Fenwick Primary School and of Greenmill Primary School; customers of Fenwick Post Office, King's Arms, Fenwick and Jessie's General Store, Fenwick; and committee of Galston Bowling Club; not forgetting the family of Lisa Mathieson, who benefits from the services offered by the two schools.
As a result of all this support I will be able to send around £2750 to be divided between Hillside and Lisalanna and an appropriate presentation will be arranged as soon as possible.
Many thanks to all who supported my venture. Your support is much appreciated.
