Bookmakers robbed by man with gun

Police are hunting an armed robber who held up a bookmakers in broad daylight.

The man stole a low three-figure sum from BetFred bookmakers in Possil Road, Glasgow, at about 2.10pm on Friday

He brandished a gun and threatened two staff, a 60-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man, before leaving with the money, Strathclyde Police said. The gun was not fired and the workers were uninjured.

The man is white, around 30, 5ft 11ins and spoke with a local accent. He was wearing a navy blue quilted jacket with a hood, a black scarf over his face, grey jogging bottoms and white Nike Air Max trainers.

Police are now checking CCTV in the area.

Constable David Hardie said: "Thankfully no-one was injured during the incident and only a relatively small amount of cash was taken, however, this was a very frightening experience for the staff working there.

"Also, what is very concerning here is the fact that this happened in the afternoon in an area which is a busy junction both with pedestrians and vehicles, and this man was in possession of a firearm."
