Newborn snake found in high-rise

A tiny snake has been found slithering free in a high-rise block of flats in Dundee.

The newborn corn snake was discovered by a caretaker in a corridor of the building in Bonnethill Court last Wednesday.

The reptile was collected by the SSPCA and has been named Shoelace by staff due to its size. It is now being cared for at the charity's rehoming centre in Balerno, Edinburgh.

Animal rescue officer Sharon McKenzie said: "Shoelace was lucky to be found as it's only a hatchling and not much bigger than a worm.

"Corn snakes are extremely good escape artists and it's very likely that this little one has managed to break out of its vivarium. However, we can't rule out the possibility that Shoelace may have been abandoned.

"We'd encourage this snake's owner to come forward, but if no one claims it we'll find it a good new home."
