60 tackle blaze at recycling plant

More than 60 firefighters are tackling a large blaze at a recycling plant.

Crews were called to the WRC Recycling building in Floors Street, Johnstone, around 6pm on Monday.

Train services in the area have been disrupted and some residents in nearby properties have been evacuated but there have been no injuries, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service said.

The fire was reported by a number of people as the flames quickly spread sending thick, black smoke into the sky.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said: "Over 60 firefighters from Johnstone, Paisley, Renfrew and a number of other local stations are currently fighting a well-developed fire at a recycling plant in Johnstone.

"The incident has been sectorised and crews are using aerial rescue pumps as water towers to tackle the blaze from above.

"Some local resident have been evacuated from surrounding premises."

Police are also at the scene.
