Pair in court over pensioner death

A 62-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman have appeared in court in connection with the death of a man whose body was found on Christmas Day.

George Potts, 65, was found dead at an address in Cairnryan village in Dumfries and Galloway on Tuesday, police said.

Christina Mary Dane Slooves or Biggar, from Cairnryan, appeared at Stranraer Sheriff Court charged with murder and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

James Potts, from Ballantrae, also appeared at Stranraer Sheriff Court charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Neither made a plea or declaration and both were remanded in custody.

The alleged incident took place on December 24 or 25.

A spokesman for the Crown Office said: "The Procurator Fiscal at Stranraer received a report concerning a 55-year-old female and a 62-year-old male in connection with an alleged incident in Cairnryan on 24 or 25 December 2012."
