Body found after farmhouse fire

One person has died and another was taken to hospital after a fire in a farmhouse.

Emergency services were called to the blaze on Dumpston Farm in Longside, Peterhead, at around 10pm on Wednesday.

Grampian Police said a body was found in the house and an elderly man was taken to hospital.

"The property was extensively damaged and an 83-year-old man was taken to Peterhead Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

"Officers can also confirm that remains have been found at the property but no identification has been made at this stage," a force spokeswoman said.

"The cause of the fire is currently unknown and a joint fire investigation is under way although inquiries are at an early stage."

Around 30 firefighters put out the flames and officers are working to make the scene safe.
