Human remains have been discovered at a building site in Irvine.
Bones were found in Sandy Road at around 9am on Tuesday, Strathclyde Police said.
Forensic archaeologists are now working at the site to take out the remains, a task expected to take a couple of days to complete.
In the 19th century an asylum and poorhouse was at the site and Ravenspark Hospital was there later.
It is now being developed for housing, called Fairways View, by Dundas Estates.
