RACHAEL Nicholl has won a national competition by reading 120 books in two months.
The 11-year-old bookworm from Dundonald scooped a new bike in the sponsored read-a-thon organised by Scottish Power and Friends of the Earth Scotland.
Rachael beat 500 children from all over Scotland in the competition which encourages children to ditch computer games for books.
Rachael said: “I’m so excited. I love reading and try to as much as I can in class and at home.”
She is a regular visitor to her local library and her favourite book is Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. Rachael and her classmates raised almost £100 with the sponsored read-a-thon.
Alison McKean, head of environment at ScottishPower, praised the Dundonald class.
She said: “I hope Rachael and her classmates continue to read and cut back on energy draining activities like watching TV and playing computer games.”
