DRIVERS are being warned they could face delays as roadworks are carried out on the A71 Darvel road.
Temporary restrictions, covering two weekends, are planned.
South Lanarkshire Council is set to undertake resurfacing works and safety improvement works on the A71 between Caldermill Farm and Hallburn Farm.
Use of the road by all vehicles will be prohibited from 7pm on Friday, April 24 until 6am on Monday, April 27.
The same applies from 7pm on Friday, May 8 until 6am on Monday, May 11.
Access will be maintained for pedestrians, emergency vehicles and works vehicles.
The improvements are intended to reinforce the importance of safe driving while also improving the existing road conditions and the council hopes these measures will assist in increasing the safety of motorists using the road.
Alternative routes will be clearly signed and, westbound: Traffic should continue northwest to East Kilbride on the A726, west on the A726 Glasgow Southern Orbital to junction A77, south on the A77 and A719 to Galston, then continue east on the A71 through Darvel to the east side of the closure. Eastbound, the alternative route works in reverse.
Said a council spokeswoman: “It is inevitable that there will be some delay to journeys during the time this work is taking place. The council would ask drivers to be patient and co-operative while these necessary works, which will benefit all motorists using the road, are carried out.”
