Blitz on dodgy A77 drivers

COPS are cracking down on rogue drivers on the A77.

A 10-day blitz began last Friday and continues until Monday.

Extra police resources have been deployed on Ayrshire’s busiest road and local officers are currently covering key points on the route.

The initiative hopes to influence driver behaviour in the run up to the ‘season of goodwill’.

Anyone caught speeding or committing seat belt or mobile phone offences is being warned they will be dealt with accordingly.

Inspector Drew Robertson said on Monday: “The A77 goes through a number of towns and villages and police continue to receive complaints from residents that motorists fail to adjust their speed for built-up areas.

“Although the SPECS camera system covers much of this road, there is still a place for – and demand from the public for – trained road policing officers to target offenders that cannot be dealt with by this means, such as drivers with no insurance”.
