MISERY for late night road users is on the cards next week as major roadworks take place on the A77 at the Bellfield interchange.
Overnight patching works will begin on the bypass, which opened in 1973, on Monday for four nights at a cost of £120,000.
The good news is that works, and associated traffic restrictions, are limited to overnight only between 10pm and 5am.
The work will be carried out under full closure of the southbound carriageway from Bellfield to Dutchhouse Roundabout. A local diversion route will be in place via the A71 and A78 back to the A77 at Dutchhouse.
Mike Robin, network area manager for Amey, who manage the road network, said: “Recent investigations carried out on this section have confirmed that the existing road surface has reached the end of its lifespan and patching work is now required.
“We have consulted with Strathclyde Police and East Ayrshire Council to determine the most effective time to carry out this work.
“The A77 is one of Scotland’s busiest roads, with commuters travelling as far as Stranraer to reach Stena and P&O ferry terminals, therefore we would ask drivers to leave extra time to negotiate the diversion route while the road is closed during these four nights.”
