STEWARTON and District Ladies Circle will hold their annual Think Pink charity night in aid of breast cancer at the Millhouse Hotel, Stewarton on Friday, October 3 from 7.30pm.

May and Janette are holding a charity disco and auction on Saturday, October 4, in Townholm Bowling Club, Kilmarnock.
All funds raised are for Sense Scotland a Scottish charity supporting deaf blind children and young adults.

Members of the 1st Stewarton Boys’ Brigade will be attending St Columba’s Church on Sunday, October 5 for a celebration service to mark the occasion of the Boys’ Brigade being 125 years old.
All will be made welcome at the church on that day, so if you are interested in the Boys’ Brigade or indeed are an ex-member please come along and help us celebrate this special occasion.
A family lunch will be held in the Centre afterwards open to boys and their families.
Scottish country dancing for adults re-starts on Monday, October 6 at 7.30pm in the Drama Club Hall, Corsehillbank Street. This is a social class for all levels of ability.

Tickets for Stewarton Drama Group’s forthcoming production of ‘Laughter, Love & Tears’ due to be performed in the Stewarton Area Centre on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 October at 7.30pm are on sale now in Stewarton library and Candy Chace in High Street, priced at £6 each.

Following the great success of its first fashion show and clothes sale, the Guide Association is holding another on Friday, October 24 in The Centre, Standalane.

The tea dance in the new Stewarton Area Centre was much enjoyed and well supported.
The premises is a big asset to the town, despite a few minor teething problems and Betty and Nancy thank all who helped make the afternoon a success, especially Jim and Jackie.
Stewarton Open Door Club began their meeting on Thursday by singing the club song accompanied by Jim and Willie, the invited artists for the day.
A fine programme was performed with some Scottish dance tunes and favourite songs, along with some jokes and solos from Jim.
An excellent afternoon was had by all. President Nancy then thanked them both and welcomed new members to the club. Suggestions will be welcomed next week for the Christmas dinner.
Raffle was drawn and tea served.
In the Bowling Club’s presidents singles final, Gordon McCartney beat Jimmy (Squire) Fleming in a closely contested final with Jimmy having the upper hand early on, but Gordon running out victor in the end. This was the third final Gordon had won in the past 10 days, having won the mixed pairs with his wife Anne when they beat Jim and marilyn gilmour and then winning the vice-presidents pairs with partner Dennis Fisk, beating George Burns and George Moncur!
In the champion of champions held at Fenwick last Saturday, only Iain D. Carmichael and John Hughes made it through to their respective singles finals where they both would meet Fenwick opposition. Unfortunately John lost 21-16, whilst young Iain won the under 25s singles championship by 21-19. Well done to Iain!
The following day, on Sunday, in the final club competition of this season, it was Jackie (Darter) Redmond who won the Robert Miller Trophy beating Davy Rankin in the final.
It was a smashing day and thanks must go to Stuart and Rab in the kitchen, sponsorship from Robert Miller, President Wullie Higgins and to Hughie Sharp for running the tournament.
Looking ahead to the final fixture on the Gents Bowling calendar, closing day is on Saturday, October 4. Sheets are now up in the club for all those members wishing to take part in the over 60s (auld yins) verses the under 60s (young guns).
