Stewarton shop raider waits for sentence

A TEENAGE girl who broke into a Stewarton shop had her sentence deferred for a second time at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week.

Sixteen-year-old Hannah Johnston was due to be sentenced after pleading guilty to breaking into RS McColl in Main Street on June 17 – making off with goods valued at only £6, but causing £300 worth of damage.

But the court heard that background reports called for had not been prepared because Johnston had found herself homeless. She is now living in Kilmarnock’s St Andrews hostel.

Douglas Wright, defending, said previously that his client received disability living allowance, relating to mental health problems.

Sentence was further deferred until August 5 for social enquiry and community service reports. Bail was continued.

SENTENCE was deferred this week on a Stewarton man who admitted taking part in a street attack.

Stephen Pratt, 22, of Lainshaw Street, pleaded guilty to repeatedly punching and kicking a male on the head and body in Cocklebie Park, Stewarton, last October.

He also admitted committing a breach of the peace by shouting, swearing and threatening violence on the same occasion.

Sentence was deferred until September 16 at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.

A WOMAN appeared at court last week accused of throwing a bottle of wine and glasses at a man.

Lorna Cook, 39, of Riverside Road, Stewarton, is charged with carrying out the assault at the Co-op in the town’s Main Street last October.

She also faces a charge of committing a breach of the peace by shouting and swearing in the shop.

Cook pleaded not guilty and trial was set for October 8.

She was released on bail.
