Newmilns child porn woman released within three days

A WOMAN caught with child porn has been released, only three days after being remanded in custody.

At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last Monday, Emma Louise Griffin, 24, now living in Newmilns, admitted possessing hundreds of indecent images of children at her former home in Lauder Court, Kilmarnock, last October. Some were rated at the most severe level.

Sentence was deferred until July 20 for background reports and Sheriff Alistair Watson ordered that she be kept in custody.

But at 9.30am on Thursday she was released following a successful appeal against the sheriff’s refusal to continue bail.

Sheriff Watson told Griffin last week that his concern was whether she posed any danger to children.

He said: “It may be that what I read in the psychological assessment might at the end of the day suggest that you are not at risk of engaging in direct contact.

“At this stage I don’t know that.

“My concern for public safety is such that, until I have such reassurance, I’m going to remand you in custody to ensure that the public are protected in the meantime.”
