Musical magic earns two businesswomen award nominations

TWO Kilmarnock businesswomen have been nominated for an award for their musical work with children in the local area.

Fiona McKenzie, director of Centrestage Music Theatre in Kilmarnock and Liz Rowe, Ayrshire franchisee for Musical Minis have been nominated for this year’s ‘What’s on 4 Little Ones’ awards.

Liz, who has been running her franchise for nearly five years is nominated in the Most Outstanding Activity Leader for the Under 5s.

She said: “I am grateful to everyone who nominated me in this section. I love doing Musical Minis and it really doesn’t feel like a job, I have so much fun. I have almost 1000 members in the Ayrshire area and am currently arranging a charity family fun day on Sunday, March 21, in the Park Hotel, to celebrate five years in business.

“Musical Minis has a great relationship with Centrestage and have classes there on Fridays, so I’d like to also say well done to Fiona for being nominated.

“My granddaughter goes to her classes and she is a fantastic musical director and an inspiration to all the children who attend. It would be lovely if we could both bring a What's on 4 Little Ones award back to Kilmarnock.”

Fiona and her Centrestage team are currently celebrating the success of their recent production of Beauty and the Beast which has just enjoyed a week of sell-out shows.

This marks their seventh full scale production staged by their flagship music theatre group since Centrestage opened in 2006. Fiona has been nominated as Most Outstanding Activity Leader for children aged five to 12.

Fiona said: “Thank you to all who nominated me for this award. It is a pleasure to work with the children and adults who attend Centrestage on a weekly basis and we hope that they continue to enjoy coming to our classes.”

To vote for Liz and Fiona people need to log onto www.whatson4littleones.co.uk/awards.asp and select their choices in each category.

Musical Minis has also been nominated in the Best National Activity for newborn to two years and in the Best National Pre-school Activity for age two to five years. Voting closes on Friday, April 30.

Liz currently has Musical Minis classes running in Kilmarnock, Darvel, Prestwick, Irvine, Mauchline and Stewarton.
