A POLICEMAN who punched a man in a kebab shop queue has resigned from his job in disgrace.
Scott McKie, 27, who had been previously tipped for promotion in the force, pleaded guilty to the brutal assault which happened in the Kilmarnock Kebab House in January.
McKie, also a player with junior outfit Hurlford United, lashed out and punched Barry Logue in the eye as they waited in the queue.
McKie was fined £200 last week after admitting the assault, carried out while off-duty.
The Kebab House is popular with officers from the nearby police station and staff recognised him from previous visits.
The Kebab House owner Mustapha Polat, 27, said: “McKie started kicking off while he and the victim were both waiting for food. McKie went for the other bloke and had to be pulled off him.”
McKie was later arrested by colleagues from Kilmarnock police office, where he is based.
After the attack McKie was suspended pending a decision from Strathclyde Police on his future. But yesterday the force said he had since resigned.
A spokeswoman added: “He is no longer a serving officer.”
Last week Kilmarnock Sheriff Court was told McKie had a promising career ahead of him and had been tipped for promotion.
The victim could not be contacted for comment.
