Kilmarnock's Park School is demolished

BULLDOZERS moved in to knock down the old Park School in Kilmarnock this week.

The site in Grassyards Road is being cleared to make way for a new school to be built on the site.

East Ayrshire Council has architects drawing up a school to cater for children, from primary age through to secondary, with a range of disabilities.

There will be 10 classrooms plus special activity rooms for art, music and life skills – and a therapy pool and medical suite.

Councillor leader Douglas Reid said: “From the beginning the council has had full parental support and everyone is really looking forward to the old school being demolished so that we can start to look to the future.”

Pupils and staff who are currently based at Woodstock and Witchhill schools in Kilmarnock are helping to design their new school.

Councillor Iain Linton, lifelong learning spokesman, said: “The design promises to be creative, adding much to the local environment and stimulating creativity amongst the young people who will attend the school and of course our employees.”

It is hoped the new school will be completed by 2012.

The pupils from Park School moved to a new school within the Grange campus in Kilmarnock last year.
