East Ayrshire Council junior in running to be apprentice of the year

EAST Ayrshire Council’s building and works apprentice joiner John Hope was a finalist at the Scottish APSE (Association of Public Sector Excellence) Apprentice of the Year awards 2007/2008.

The council also received a certificate for Excellence in Training Standards for John’s achievement.

John, now in the fourth year of his apprenticeship, has acquired a number of awards in the past year including finalist at the council’s excellence awards ceremony and finalist at the James Birnie award for craft excellence 2008.

Councillor John MacKay said: “John is a real credit to the council and building and works and we are all very proud of his achievements. He gained an apprenticeship with building and works following a placement on the Get Ready for Work scheme and since commencing his apprenticeship John has excelled in joinery.

“This latest award is a tribute to his consistent hard work, skill and dedication. I would like to offer congratulations to John, and his excellent mentors, on their continued success.”
