Golf: Kilmarnock College student awarded by Royal and Ancient

KILMARNOCK College student and amateur golfer Jamie MacKay is one step closer to realising his dream of playing at a professional level after his talents were recognised by one of the world’s top golf clubs.

The Royal and Ancient Club at St Andrews (R&A) recently awarded 20-year-old Jamie with a cheque for £500 after recognising his potential on the fairway.

Jamie, who is studying full-time for an HND in sports coaching, also runs golf coaching sessions for children in his spare time.

Jamie, who hones his golfing skills at Kilmarnock Barassie Golf Club, said: “To become a professional golfer would be a dream come true.

“My dad used to be a professional golfer and encouraged me to play from quite a young age. I was so grateful to the R&A for their recent sponsorship, it will help me fund my entry into the big competitions and allow me to purchase good quality equipment.”
